cell phones in school
ok does anyone else out there think that its wrong that the teachers and admintratiors make us turn off our cell phones in school..i think that u should be able to have them on but out of sight (in your pocket, purse, locker) on silent or vibrate...if any emergency situation occurs in a class room then there is no way to call 911 or the main office..if a student has it off it takes more time to turn it on and then wait for everything to come up...if its on silent then u pull it out and call...i keep mine off but i think that we should be able to have them on!! :)

Cell Phones
I agree, but to a certain extent, because there are students who would abuse that privilege and start calling their friends in the middle of class. And what if there was an emergency and our parents cannot reach us? We should have cell phones on, but on silent or vibrate.

cell phones in school
Ok today i have an example of this. The office doesn't want us to use there phones to contact parents when we need to. Today when we all left 1 hour early due to the weather i needed to call my mom to tell her but they wouldn't let me use the phone yet we aren't allowed to use our Cell Phones to call either.
How are we supposed to get in contact with our parents when we need to?!?!?!?!?!
I don't get it i wish they would just let us use their cell phones so that we all can feel comfertable knowing what the plan is for that day after something was changed :!:

thats really true!
they always say how we can't use their phones either
and that's just stupid
Cell Phones
We need to contact our parents somehow, since the office won't share their phone, only for 'emergencies'. So why not cell phones? We would only use them before or after school.

also, two years ago there were a bunch of gas leaks and we had to go to our high school (which is right next door)
and they were getting mad at us freaked out 6th graders for calling our parents to pick us up (i had my phone in my book bag, which wasn't with me)
they really should let us use them in situations like that

In emergency situations, your school has the proper communication systems in place to deal with any problems. When it comes down to it, the electronic umbilicle cord is not needed to mediate emergency situations, rather it is a minor convenience.
If you wheigh cell phone-based cheating and a phone call for pick-up, the phone is gonna get thrown out every time. Period.
However, the high school level is a different story. Communication is a far greater need between the students, employers, and parents than on the middle or elementary school level. This is why the policy in high school is to have the cell phone deactivated during the school day, which is hardly enforced anyway.
I am sorry to say, but this is yet another problem which really is just a minor inconvenience.

whats SO stupid is that if we have an emergency like i dont know if my mom is picking me up you have to go to the office and its stupid because it was dismisal and i was walking to my bus but i didnt know which one of my buses to ride and i called my mom when i was outside and the teacher yelled at me!

*smacks self in head*
I just reread the question and ...
we should be able to have cell phone IN school but we should have them OFF
I thought the question was for them IN school, not ON in school
sorry bought that
but we should be able to have them, just not on
Cell Phones
I think we should have our cell phones on in school but out of sight.
But I also think that we should have cell phones off because you know there are some kids that will abuse the privilege. In my homeroom class there is a group of kids that call each other, just to get them in trouble
cell phones in school
yeah
we went on a band trip, and all these guys were doing that and laughing about it
Keep it off, or on silent
