Well if they increased the amount of time we had between classes then we would have enough time to get to our next class, settle down, and start our work. If that was the case i believe that we really could get in a reasonable amount of information... if we stay focused!
Studies have shown that the mid gets tired after 45 minutes of the same thing. I think the class times should be 55 minutes giving you enough time to settle down but also enough time to take in and retatn some information.
Yep before the block schedule we had 6 classes and a lunch period, with each class lasting for 55 minutes.
The only problem I see with 6 classes a day is that the student may be overloaded with homework if they are taking many rigorous courses. However, I'm sure that student probably knows how to manage his or her time effectively so it shouldn't be a problem.
I agree that 86 minute classes are way too long. This year I have noticed that some of my teachers finish their lesson plan for the class within the first hour or so and the rest of the time is wasted, as he or she has no activities planned.

55 minutes is reasobable.
my math teacher said that its great but some of my class mates say 86 because thats means more homework every night
my cousin has five 72 classes is that a possibility???
im conducting a poll with my classmates and teachers so i'll see what they say
If you take the 14 min from each of the 86 min classes you have 70min. so it is a possibility. But 72 minutes is still a long time. Where is this schedule anyway.

I may be the only one, but I actually like the 86-minute block schedule. Not only is homework per night cut in half, but in classes such as science and gym you actually have time to do labs and/or activities. There are only a few classes I've had where I got bored because of the long period, but usually that is the teacher or subject matter, not the length of the period, at fault.

i think i would like the 6 period days of 55 min. 84 min is crazy! i mean who has an attention span that long? i sure dont. even subjects that i would normally like have become borring  and i know that im not the only one who has trouble paying atention in class. i could do with a cut in homework 2.. i think evri1 could.
I believe that 86 minute classes is far to long. I find it hard to even pay attention that long and most of the time just doze of into another world. I believe if we did a shorter class lenght, it would pay off in the long run. Maybe not going back to the 45 we used to have but, maybe doing just an hour or maybe 55 minute classes so students aren't falling sleep in class. :!:

How do you quote yourself?....lol
I disagree with most of the comments made so far...
i feel the timing is very efficient and (as someone mentioned earlier), it may be the teacher or subject that's boring people. If any of my teachers run short in a lesson plan they would start on the next days lesson or allow me to do their homework. I too, sometimes, feel bored during some classes but shortning the period would only get me out of the class sooner. :eusadancing: WOW :eusadancing:
 Face it, you still have to learn the boring stuff too :!:

When I was in middle school (southern middle) we had three different scheduals while I was there.
-One year we had 6 periods at around and hour each. This was nice because it was not to long or to short. The only down fall was for middle school we had to have double english.
-The next year we had 8 periods in a day and the classes we around 40 min each. This was way to short. By the time you got into class and got to work class was over. Also, again you had to have double english for middle school.
-The last year we had a 4 period day. This was definetly to long, espically for middle school ( I find that the same even in high school). Also, in middle school you only get a semester of science and social studies. I do not think that this is a good idea because then when you enter high school you may not have had one of these subjects in 7 months and thats hard to jump into.
I think that a 6 period day with classes around and hour is the best option that I have seen so far.

Don't worry, you are not the only one! I really love the 86 minute class periods. First of all, they allow you to take more classes. Having four classes a day gives you more time to do other things after school, since I am sure that having six classes of homework to do every night is much more homework than just four classes.
Second, what if the students want to challenge themselves and take rigourous courses such as A.P. courses so that it looks good for college? If they only had to deal with two of those A.P. courses a day, it would not be as hard as dealing with four every day...doing the homework of four A.P. classes every night. I know people who have taken five A.P. classes in a year and they have been very very successful....and it was probably because they didn't have to deal with every A.P. subject every night.
Lastly, high school is the time for students to see what they are interested in and what they want to be. If they have those two extra slots on their course selection form, then they are able to do trial and error so that they will not waste years in college doing the experimentation. For example, I started this year of high school wanting to be an engineer. As I took an engineering course, I realized that engineering really isn't what I want to do with my life. So, I know now that I shouldn't be an engineer. But, what if I hadn't had the room in my schedule to try that engineering course? What if I had just assumed that I would like it and tried classes in other subjects instead? I would have been in trouble if I went to college and wasted my time taking engineering classes. After about a year, I would have realized that I really didn't want to be an engineer, but that is an entire year wasted! I could have been taking classes that actually prepare up to what I want to do in my life!

i agree 86 mins is a bit obsessive but we've learned 2 cope w/it but 45 mins is the opposite of that xtreme.........i cant possibly see what you could learn and practice and remember in 45mins however 60 mins classes werent that bad when they xisted.......... :)
But then you can't have as much room to take classes and you also don't have the alternating days...and the alternating days help you so much with homework and such.
In high school, students should automatically be disciplined because they are at the age where they should actually act responsibly. Students should be mature.
Also, if students are getting bad grades, then it's their own faults if they aren't getting help....or, they may just not care at all. Why should we change the schedule for people who don't care? It will just drag down the people that do care.
How are students "auto disiplined"? Thats an interesting concept. If they act so responsibly why can't they vote. Why did they rasie the driving age why can't they drink, why do they still need a parent or guardian? Acting mature is something that doesn't come automatically that is learned over time. I we were so responsible we wouldn't have to go to school we would home school ourselves.
Ok....you're right about the who disaplined thing. But I still don't think that we should change the schedule for people who don't care about school and don't care about their future. This A/B schedule lets us have so many opprotunities because it lets us take so many classes.
I'm not saying that we should change the schedule. I'm just showing that there are problem with it. It would be pointless to change it back that would defeat the purpose. There must have been more benift than cost for the change to this schedule.
if the classses where 45 minutes then we would have 8 classes and that is 8 home work assiments that u would have to do for that that and it will be like that every day you have school. Me personally i can not keep up with all of those classes especially with AP classes on top of them

U need to persuade me more than that! Why should we? How much information would we really take in after only 45 minutes!? :?: :?:

That is a good Idea! but you need to fit it in to the school schedule! Like how many periods would we have?
Class Periods
I think there would be six periods. I not sure but I think before the block schedule high schools used this.
